Usha is an offering of hope. Named for the embodiment of the Divine Dawn in the Rig Veda Samhita, the song invokes the light of revelation that arrives to banish darkness and shadow. The English lyrics are a kind of long form poetic rendering of the Sanskrit matra that brings the song home: usho devi amartya, usha yati jyotisha.
The EP begins with a jooyful prayer to Ganesha, the poet of poets who calls the universe into being. And it includes a hymn that calls out to the Divine Mother and celebrates Her victory that manifests in every new moment of life.
This EP began in Vedanth Bharadvaj’s recording studio in Chennai in 2023 and includes collaborations with Raquel Jover (piano), Shreya Devnath (carnatic violin), Noah Hoffeld (cello), Saurabh Joshi (percission), and Onatah Stoll (vocals).
